shattered glass effect
once you get the hang of the concept... play around with the settings, colors, shapes, etc. there's no rhyme or reason to this stuff :)
I'm using photoshop, but I'm sure most photo programs have variations of the tools.
If you try it... let me know! I'd love to see how it comes out!
Have fun!

1. open your picture you want to "shatter"
2. on a layer on top of the picture, use your lasso tool to make a
spaztic kind of starburst over the picture... go crazy! but make sure you
have lots of skinny points in your starburst.
3. fill your selected area with white
4. turn the transparency to "overlay"
5. dim the transparency down a bit, I used 70%
6. duplicate that starburst shape you just made
7. take the duplicated layer and tweek it out a bit, stretch it just so
it's not exactly on top of the one below it.
8. put a gausian blur on the new starburst
9. dim the transparency, I used 20%
Just to dirty it up a bit...
10. make a new layer, grab the pencil and scribble scrabble all over the place - I used black (1 px)
11. gaussian blur (1.5)
12. "overlay" and set transparency to 50%
13. just to add some freakiness, to kinda give it that messy look, I put
a layer of stripes over the entire thing and turned the transparency to
"overlay" then dimmed it to about 25%
voila!
